Michael Austin is a director at Atlas Research. For Atlas, Mr. Austin is leading projects in the Program Management Lean Six Sigma (PMLSS) contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs, working with others in the firm to build Atlas’ financial management and regulatory compliance capability, and assisting with proposal pricing efforts.

He has more than 25 years of professional experience working in disparate industries that include government services, global health, international nonprofits, commercial banking, conservation, academic research, international development, child health, and microfinance.

He is a strong leader with excellent client relationship management skills, managing all aspects of program implementation including project planning and initiation, resource management, budgeting and financial management, reporting, risk management, delivery, and quality assurance. For the past 10 years, he has worked with federal agencies providing assistance in the management of public assistance award portfolios. With 20 years of federal contracting and award administration experience, Mr. Austin has a detailed understanding of the full federal acquisition and public assistance award life cycle and has supported 10 of the 26 federal award-making agencies. He offers extensive experience in developing innovative solutions to assist federal agencies and nonprofit organizations develop strategies for effective award portfolio monitoring, design risk assessments, assess the impact and implications of evolving regulations, develop internal controls, design and implement tools and activities to assess financial and regulatory compliance, develop training and capacity building programs, and develop systems to track award monitoring results and identify trends.

Prior to joining Atlas Research, Mr. Austin spent the last decade working with Booz Allen Hamilton to assist its federal clients in managing their public assistance award portfolios. This included risk assessment and mitigation, portfolio management and analysis, regulatory compliance, policy impact assessment, audit resolution, and portfolio monitoring.
