Evaluating Health Workforce Development Strategies

Challenge

The Garrett-Allegany Health Workforce Development Network integrates the collective experience and expertise of network members to develop and implement innovative, community-based educational and clinical health training programs. The training programs encourage the recruitment and retention of emerging health professionals in order to address the critical health workforce shortages in rural Western Maryland. Funding is provided through the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Solution

The Western Maryland Area Health Education Center has engaged Atlas Research experts to serve as evaluators for the Garrett-Allegany Health Workforce Development Network. Atlas analyzed program operations and made recommendations for courses of action, regional resources, and potential collaborations.

Result

The project, informed by the Atlas evaluation, will strengthen existing ties among Network members and will create new partnerships to recruit and retain health care professionals.
