Georgetown University Grad Students Experience Rural West Virginia Hospital

May 13, 2010

As part of Hilda Heady’s and Ryung Suh’s Veterans Rural Health course at Georgetown University, graduate students took a field trip to rural Petersburg, West Virginia, to tour Grant Memorial Hospital. Georgetown University is committed to educating and engaging students and faculty in support of Veterans health initiatives and focusing on important health disparities issues, to include those faced by rural communities.

Students heard from retiring administrator and CEO, Bob Harman, whose vision for improved care and services for rural residents has tremendously impacted the Potomac Highlands area. Students also toured Grant Memorial Hospital to learn about the Rural Health Outreach Project of the Eastern Panhandle Integrated Delivery System, to visit with the site coordinator for the Eastern West Virginia Rural Health Education Consortium, and to engage with providers at the Veterans Clinic to discuss rural Veterans’ needs and services.
