Atlas Research Awarded Contract by HHS to Conduct Systematic Reviews of the Evidence on Providing Quality Family Planning Services

October 28, 2015

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Population Affairs (OPA) has partnered with Atlas Research to conduct systematic reviews of the evidence on providing quality family planning services.

A leader in family planning and reproductive health services, training, and research, OPA is responsible for directing the only federal program, Title X, dedicated solely to providing family planning and reproductive health. Title X provides a broad range of effective family planning methods and services to those who might need them the most but to whom they might not be readily available. The Title X program provides guidelines for the standard of care for the delivery of family planning services based on the most current evidence. In 2008, HHS and the Centers for Disease Control announced recommendations to improve the quality of family planning services.

To help support OPA as they begin the process of updating the Quality of Family Planning (QFP) recommendations, Atlas Research will conduct six systematic reviews; two will be based on new topics determined by OPA and the other four are preexisting and require updates. Systematic reviews are a central link between evidence and health-related decision making. They provide Title X grantees and providers, and the broader reproductive health community, with the best available evidence to inform patient care, performance measures, research agendas, and public policy.

“Our organization’s expertise in conducting systematic reviews and our deep understanding of the needs, strengths, and opportunities lends itself well to providing HHS with the robust support needed to carry out the work in this contract. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with HHS on another contract to further bolster their family planning service programs,” said Atlas Research Executive Vice President Dr. Jamie Hart.
