Ryung Suh, MD, MPP, MBA, MPH

Ryung Suh, MD, MPP, MBA, MPH, is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Atlas Research. Dr. Suh has over 25 years of private sector experience as a health care executive, research scholar, and management consultant and served for 26 years as an infantry and medical corps officer with a diverse set of operational, special operations, and military health system responsibilities. He brings a wealth of public and private sector health systems management experience along with a proven reputation as a valued strategic advisor. Dr. Suh has served as the Chair of the Department of Health Systems Administration at Georgetown University, with additional appointments at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and at The George Washington University, and has served as a Senior Fellow for NORC at the University of Chicago.

He has held leadership positions for a broad range of health professional organizations to include the Board of Trustees for the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), the Board of Trustees (and President) for the American Association of Public Health Physicians (AAPHP), the Board of Directors for the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), the Federal and Military Section Chair for the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM).  He was a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and an Associate member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). He has served as an advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and other public and private organizations. He has directed life sciences solutions practices focused on strategic reimbursement and on health economics for commercial clients focused on pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and biologics and has served on the CPT Editorial Panel Advisory Committee, addressing coding issues for health care reimbursement.

Dr. Suh is a combat Veteran who has deployed to multiple overseas locations throughout the Middle East, Southeast and East Asia, and Central America. He served as a battalion surgeon with 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), a flight surgeon with Joint Task Force Bravo, and a task force surgeon with 10th Mountain Division supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He managed a joint Deployment Health Center and served as Command Surgeon of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, with oversight over a global occupational health program and medical authority for highly sensitive nuclear, chemical, and radiological surety and medical surveillance programs. He served as the National Capital Region Flight Surgeon, managing aviation medicine services for five military commands, and as Chief of Physical Examinations for the DeWitt Health Care Network, overseeing the medical transition of active duty Service Members into the VA system. He retired from military service in 2016 as Detachment Surgeon of the U.S. Army Reserve Consequence Management Unit dealing with chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

He is board-certified in occupational and environmental medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine (FACPM) and a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (FACOEM). He graduated from the United States Military Academy and completed his medical, public policy, and management studies at Georgetown University, with additional studies at the Yonsei University School of International Studies and Trinity College, Oxford University. His military qualifications include airborne, ranger, and static line jumpmaster, and he holds a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance.
