Research Associate

The Research Associate will be responsible for the day-to-day activities related to projects sponsored by various government agencies. Projects may have a focus on policy and planning initiatives, management and support of pilot projects and related meetings, education and training resource development efforts, and policy-oriented studies and analyses. Research Associates may contribute to a variety of projects in unrelated areas, based on client needs.

Responsibilities
Find, organize, abstract, and analyze scientific, health services research, policy analyses, and business information to support senior staff and client assignments. Work under the direction of senior staff in a variety of issue areas.

Conduct literature reviews, support statistical analyses of primary and secondary data, and prepare memos, tables and graphs based on findings. Work is both quantitative and qualitative and may involve data analysis, consultation with subject matter experts, and synthesis of information from varied sources.

Prepare written reports and client deliverables, under the guidance of senior staff. Assist with manuscript submission, including identification of required components, format, content, and documentation; obtain necessary supplemental materials; and edit manuscripts. Assist with preparation of presentations for internal planning sessions, stakeholder meetings, and national conferences.

Assist with the development and submission of proposals to federal agencies, private foundations, and other funding sources, including identifying required components, format, and content; draft and edit proposals; coordinate contributions from various staff; collect required supplemental documents including journal articles and curriculum vitae for investigators.

As needed, assist with a variety of special projects and operational support tasks related to the development, conduct, or dissemination of policy, programs, and research focused on veterans’ rural health issues. Work may include site visits and travel to client offices.

Adhere to high standards of intellectual honesty and ethical conduct; exercise good judgment, accountability, and reliability in client relationship management and preparation of deliverables.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; outstanding interpersonal, critical reasoning, analytic, and writing skills; and experience with computer-based data analysis (e.g., Excel, SPSS, SAS) preferred.

The incumbent must demonstrate strong problem solving capability; the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, both independently and in project teams, and strong proficiency with MS Office software.

Attention to detail, the ability to discern critical information, excellent oral and written communication skills, initiative, and a desire to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment are important characteristics of a successful applicant.

Substantive knowledge of health care systems, military and Veterans issues, rural health research, health education and training, and related topics and experience in health policy, public health, or health services research are preferred.
