Building Capacity for the Office of Minority Health

Challenge

The mission of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Secretary Office of Minority Health (OMH) is to improve the health of racial and ethnic minorities through the development of health policies and programs that will eliminate health disparities. OMH accomplishes its work through coordination of HHS health disparity programs and activities; assessing policy and programmatic activities for health disparity implications; building awareness of issues impacting the health of racial and ethnic minorities; developing guidance and policy documents; collaborating and partnering with agencies within HHS, across the federal government, and with other public and private entities; funding demonstration programs; and supporting projects of national significance.

Solution

Atlas Research is helping OMH achieve these goals by:

  • Assisting with the development and monitoring of OMH’s performance measures;
  • Supporting the implementation of the six new HHS Offices of Minority Health;
  • Assessing and making recommendations for the alignment of the goals, functions, and organizational structure of the state minority health or health equity to address health disparities; and
  • Providing technical writing support (e.g., fact sheets, briefing documents, white papers).

Result

Atlas is assisting OMH in improving its leadership role in advancing programs and policies that eliminate health disparities while simultaneously increasing effectiveness and efficiency.
