Atlas Research Co-Hosts Webinar Addressing the Challenges Faced by Parents Caring for the Veteran and Service Member Children

August 25, 2015

One-quarter of post-9/11 Military Caregivers are parents of the Service Member or Veteran receiving care. To better serve this population, Atlas Research, in partnership with the Easter Seals Dixon Center and The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, will present a webinar entitled Supporting our Sons and Daughters: Parents as Caregivers of Veterans and Service Members on Thursday, August 27.

This webinar will look into the complexities experienced by parental caregivers of Veterans, as well as provide information on topics such as self-care and long-term care planning.

Join us for this exclusive webinar with special guest speaker, Annie Remsburg of Gilbert, Arizona. Annie cares for her son, Army Ranger Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg. Cory and Annie’s husband, Craig Remsburg, were featured as part of President Barack Obama’s 2014 State of the Union Address

Annie worked for over 20 years as a management representative. When Cory was injured, Annie used the available benefits of Family Medical Leave Act, until a decision was made for a more permanent solution. Annie quit her employment to care for Cory for over 1 1/2 years remotely in Florida. When Cory transitioned to an in-patient status, Annie returned to work and continued to work her position while traveling and caring for Cory until November of 2014 when she gave up her job due to medical issues.

Annie continues as a non-medical attendant coordinating doctors appointments, medicine oversight, and lots of TLC. Annie is currently living at Cory's residence to give him personal assistance as needed.

Annie will be joined by Dr. Leisa Easom of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, and a member of the VA Caregiver Support Staff.

This webinar is the latest in the Easter Seals Dixon Center “Military Caregiver Webinar Series.”
