Atlas Research had the pleasure of hosting Shuyan (Annie) Dong as an intern last year. A third-year actuarial student in the combined BS/MS actuarial science program at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Annie said of her experience, "The internship experience was so valuable and helped me realize my potential. I didn’t know I could be productive like this! Not only did I get involved in great projects, but also learned a lot through great people I talked to. I recognized the importance of an actuary’s work in the development of the economy and the welfare of the society, and determined to be an actuary. I also learned that not all actuarial work involves application of financial mathematics and life contingencies and that there are nontraditional opportunities for actuaries (for example in health care) if only we have the chance to demonstrate our skills."
