Thanks to the efforts of a long list of government and private donors, there are now billions of dollars being made available for health spending in developing countries throughout the world. But it takes more than money to answer the myriad challenges. It takes communities, health care systems, and workable local infrastructures to improve health in the developing world. Decades of neglect have left local hospitals, clinics, laboratories, medical schools, technology, and health care talent substandard in many parts of the world. Billions of people still face barriers in accessing timely, comprehensive, and high-quality health care.
